Building a custom home in Logan

Logan is a big, varied region, and the right home depends a lot on where in it you're building. Down south around Jimboomba, Greenbank and Cedar Grove you've got acreage and rural-residential blocks with room to spread out. Closer in, through established suburbs like Springwood, Daisy Hill and Shailer Park, it's often knockdown rebuild territory or building on tighter, character blocks. Across the growth corridors like Yarrabilba, Park Ridge and Logan Reserve, it's new homes on fresh land.

Each of those calls for a different approach, and a fixed project-home plan can't flex to all of them. That's where a custom builder earns its keep: Designing for the block you've actually got, the way it sits, the outlook, and how you want to live on it.

Wherever you are in Logan, if you've got a block or you're weighing up a knockdown rebuild, that's the work we do.

Custom homes, not catalogue homes

Plenty of builders work in Logan, and a lot of them are selling house-and-land packages or a set range of floor plans. If that suits you, there's no shortage of options. We do something different. Every Zarko home is designed around your block, your budget and how your family lives, rather than adapted from a plan drawn for someone else.

Zarko is run by brothers Chris and Paul Helsby, both licensed builders and qualified carpenters, so the people managing your build know the trade first-hand. Design, build and project management all sit under one roof, which means one team from the first sketch to handover, not a chain of separate designers, consultants and contractors.

Built for Logan's blocks, sloping sites included

Logan's terrain varies a lot, and plenty of blocks aren't flat. Slope, drainage, soil and site access all shape what can be built and how. Zarko has decades of experience building on Brisbane and Logan's hilly grounds, designing foundations, retaining and floor plans that work with a block's fall instead of fighting it. On acreage especially, getting the home's position right on the site is half the job, and it's the part a standard plan skips.

We also build our own concrete in-ground pools in-house, with the same team handling the home and the pool. For an acreage lifestyle home, that means the two are planned together from the start rather than coordinated between separate builders.

A recent Logan build: Jimboomba

One of our recent Logan builds is a custom single-storey home on acreage in Jimboomba, with an in-ground pool designed and built as part of the same project. Inside, raked ceilings, floor to ceiling tiled bathrooms, a large open kitchen and reclaimed Italian brick throughout. It's a good example of what building custom on a Logan acreage block can look like.
