Building a custom home in Jimboomba
Jimboomba isn't a typical Logan suburb, and the homes that suit it aren't typical either. Out here you've got room: acreage, rural-residential blocks, and space most inner-city builds never get near. That land opens up design choices a standard project home was never built to make. Wider footprints, orientation that actually works with the block, sheds and granny flats, room for the home to sit on the land rather than be squeezed onto it.
It also brings things a volume builder's brochure doesn't account for. Sloping blocks, larger setbacks, site access, the way a home should be positioned to make the most of the aspect and the views. Building well on a Jimboomba block is a different job from dropping a fixed floor plan onto a flat suburban lot, and it's the job we do.
If you've found your block out this way, or you already own here and you're ready to build, that's exactly the kind of project we're set up for.

Custom homes, not catalogue homes
Most builders advertising in Jimboomba are selling house-and-land packages or a set range of floor plans. That works for some people. If you want to choose from a catalogue and have it built, there are plenty of options.
We do the other thing. Your home gets designed around your block, your budget and how you and your family actually live, rather than fitted into a plan that was drawn for someone else. That means real choices on layout, materials, finishes and the way the home works on its site, not a short list of pre-approved swaps.
Zarko is led by brothers Chris and Paul Helsby, both licensed builders and qualified carpenters. The people running your build know the trade hands-on, which is a different proposition from a volume builder. Design, build and project management are all in-house, so you work with one team from the first conversation to handover instead of stitching together separate designers, consultants and contractors.
Built for sloping and challenging blocks
A lot of Jimboomba and Logan acreage isn't flat. Slope, drainage, soil stability, site access and engineering all come into play, and they're exactly the things a fixed floor plan ignores. Zarko has spent decades building in Logan's hilly terrain, designing foundations, retaining structures and layouts that work with the contours of a block rather than fighting them. If your block has a fall to it, that's not a problem to design around, it's an opportunity to make the most of the aspect, the views and the breezes. It's the kind of site we actively want.

Home and pool, one team
For an acreage lifestyle home, a pool is often part of the picture. Zarko builds its own concrete in-ground pools in-house, with the same team managing the home and the pool together. That means the pool is planned in harmony with the home and the site from the start, and you're not coordinating a separate pool builder partway through the job. The single-storey acreage home further down this page is a good example, house and pool designed as one.
Recent Jimboomba builds
Two recent examples of our work close to home, both here in Jimboomba.
Build one: a single-storey acreage home with pool
A custom single-storey home built for acreage living, with its own pool designed and built as part of the same project. Inside, raked ceilings give the living spaces real height and light, the bathrooms are finished floor to ceiling in tile, and the whole home is built around a large open kitchen. Reclaimed Italian bricks feature throughout, giving it a warmth and character you don't get off a standard plan. This is the kind of home Jimboomba's blocks are made for: room to breathe, designed to suit the land it sits on.

Build two: a five-bedroom family home
A large five-bedroom, lowset slab-on-ground brick veneer home, with two and a half bathrooms and a double garage. Every bedroom has its own walk-in robe, not just the main, with shaker-style cabinetry throughout and a front facade featuring reclaimed Italian bricks.

Different homes, different families, both designed around how the people living there actually wanted to live. That's what custom means, and it's what you don't get from a fixed floor plan.
